The Great Pond of Stubbing

The Great Pond of Stubbing is a large lake which is a couple of miles to the south of Chesterfield. A couple of weeks ago, after spotting it on google maps, I decided to walk out there to get some pictures of it.

It’s almost four miles from my house to the pond. Following the route on the my phone took me through Queens Park and then through Boythorpe before leaving Chesterfield. During the last section of the walk I was going along a narrow single lane road which had fields on either side, which then turned into a wooded section.

After leaving the trees the road turned and ran along one side of the lake.

At the end of that road I turned onto another road running along the lake, but it wasn’t possible to see the lake from the road. I turned back and went past the end of the lake until I reached a public footpath that ran through some fields.

When I left the footpath I had to check my map to see where I was. I noticed another lake nearby, but when I reached it, it seemed to be in someone’s back garden. So I decided to head home (my phone’s battery was getting low and I wanted to make sure I had enough charge to get back home, I should bring a power pack on future trips like this). I did keep an eye out for any other pictures to take though.

Going through my photos I noticed that four of them were supposedly taken in Williamthorpe, about five miles away from where they were actually taken. I guess my phone’s GPS must have been having trouble when I took those pictures.
